Support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 Is Ending — What Does that Mean?

On January 14, 2020, Microsoft is ending support for their Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems. As is Esri. After January 14, 2020, we will no longer support Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for Esri software. If you are still using Esri software on these operating systems, we highly recommend that you upgrade to Windows 10 or newer version of Windows Server, such as Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019, before January 2020.

What is the future of ArcPad?

ArcPad will be retired on December 31, 2020. ArcPad fills a necessary position in Esri's product offering by enabling GIS users to work with the many high-accuracy and rugged field devices running on Windows Mobile/Windows CE. But, it is important to note that ArcPad is a mature product that's closely tied to Windows Mobile and Microsoft has stopped development for the Windows Mobile/Windows CE platform. As such, any future updates to ArcPad will be focused on critical bug fixes and new app development will be focused on modern platforms (iOS, Android and Windows 10) and products such as Collector for ArcGIS, Survey123 for ArcGIS and AppStudio for ArcGIS. See the “What is the future of ArcPad?” question on the ArcPad Common Questions page.
