Prepare for Next Major ArcGIS Online Security Advancement Now
While all ArcGIS Online organizations established after September 2018 only allow HTTPS communication (encrypted), we still have many pre-existing organizations who have chosen not to utilize HTTPS only for their web services. If your ArcGIS Online organization is already utilizing HTTPS and you don’t have any external systems making requests to HTTP-based services, then this change will be a non-event for you. For customers who do not yet enforce HTTPS, please begin preparing now for when ArcGIS Online enforces HTTPS Only for all organizations in 2020. This change is being made to improve ArcGIS Online web security communication and to meet security requirements mandated by customers, such as site-wide enforcement of HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS). Visit Trust ArcGIS site to access the “ArcGIS Online Security Advisor” tool (top right corner of web page) which includes a check for HTTP references in an ArcGIS Online subscription. Please run this tool against your ArcGIS Online Org.
ArcGIS License Manager for ArcGIS Pro 2.4 and ArcMap 10.7.1
If you use Concurrent Use licensing for ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap, you will need to upgrade your ArcGIS License Manager to 2019.0 before upgrading to ArcGIS Pro 2.4 or ArcMap 10.7.1.
FAQ: What is the future of ArcPad?
ArcPad will be retired on December 31, 2020. ArcPad fills a necessary position in Esri's product offering by enabling GIS users to work with the many high-accuracy and rugged field devices running on Windows Mobile/Windows CE. But, it is important to note that ArcPad is a mature product that's closely tied to Windows Mobile and Microsoft has stopped development for the Windows Mobile/Windows CE platform. As such, any future updates to ArcPad will be focused on critical bug fixes and new app development will be focused on modern platforms (iOS, Android and Windows 10) and products such as Collector for ArcGIS, Survey123 for ArcGIS and AppStudio for ArcGIS. See the “What is the future of ArcPad?” question on the ArcPad Common Questions page.
Hot tip: Create and Manage Metadata in ArcGIS Pro
Have you ever wanted to use a particular dataset, but you didn’t know its history, completeness, purpose or accuracy? If you do not know much about your data, it is difficult to know how reliable and useful your analysis is. Metadata provides a way to document information about your data so that potential users of that data will be able to see if it is suitable for their needs. Metadata allows for the effective sharing of data and knowledge across an organization or a larger community of GIS users. For this reason, metadata is essential to the effective use of a GIS. In this blog post, you will be introduced to metadata tools available in ArcGIS Pro.

In this blog article I’ll walk you through using a few of the most common data types that you’ll encounter in GIS, so when someone throws data your way, you’ll know what to do with it.
