Map of the Month: Indian River Watershed Plan—Old-Growth Forest Map
Tsleil-Waututh oral history teaches that the Tsleil-Waututh people have always belonged to, and have accepted responsibility for the care of, the lands and waters within their traditional territory. More recent management by Crown governments has been fragmented, and it has diminished environmental and cultural values. Seizing the opportunity presented by the Province of British Columbia through the Sea-to-Sky Land and Resource Management Plan process, Tsleil-Waututh proposed a watershed-level planning process for the xʔəl̓ilwətaʔɬ/Indian River Watershed. In December 2005, Tsleil-Waututh and the Province signed a Partnership Agreement for the collaborative development of an Integrated Stewardship Plan, one of the first of its kind.

Community Map of Canada – Style of the Month: "Birthday Cake"
The Community Map of Canada Style of the Month for March is a celebratory and delicious-looking birthday cake style. This month, we're celebrating not only the 4th birthday of the vector basemap but also the 400th basemap published and 13th year of the Community Map of Canada program! With a fluffy vanilla and fun-fetti cake base and Canada's seamless road network piped with buttercream frosting symbology, this basemap style is nothing if not festive! The highway crests symbolized by confetti cannons and balloons, and Canada's name itself is symbolized with a birthday candle. Created by the Community Map of Canada's map production specialist, Mychelle Wong, the March 2023 Style of the Month can be found here:

The land mass of Canada has been turned a fluffy-textured beige and multicoloured “fun-fetti” vanilla cake texture. A striped birthday cake candle and flame are situated alongside the big letters saying “CANADA” in the middle of the country.
