ArcMap Continued Support
ArcGIS 10.8.1 is the current release of ArcMap and will continue to be supported until March 1, 2026, as established in the ArcGIS Desktop Product Life Cycle. Esri plans to release ArcMap 10.8.2 near the end of 2021. This is a maintenance release only and will not include new functionality. This update will not extend the ArcGIS 10.8.x product life cycle. Esri does not have plans to release an ArcMap 10.9 with the ArcGIS releases in 2021. We understand there may be questions as to what’s next for ArcMap inside ArcGIS Desktop. By viewing the ArcMap Continued Support page, you will be able to find the answers to most, if not all, of your questions regarding continued support of ArcMap as well as resources to help you transition your work moving forward into several Esri products such as ArcGIS Pro. Find out more about Migrating to ArcGIS Pro.
Deprecation Reminder for Explorer, Collector and Tracker
ArcGIS Field Maps was launched in October 2020 and replaces the functionality of ArcGIS Collector, ArcGIS Explorer and ArcGIS Tracker on the iOS and Android mobile platforms. These products (Collector, Explorer, Tracker) are currently available to download and are fully supported; however, they will be retired in December 2021. Migration resources, including a migration guide, can be found in this blog.
Announcing Address Manager 1.3 Release
On October 29, Esri Canada released Address Manager 1.3. Esri Canada Address Manager is a configurable web application that manages an inventory of civic addresses and ensures accuracy, completeness and compliance with NG9-1-1. As an integral part of a municipality’s overall address management life cycle, Address Manager optimizes the creation, maintenance and dissemination of authoritative civic addresses, while meeting NG9-1-1 requirements.
Top 5 enhancements:
- Move an address point outside a parcel. This is useful when splitting parcels.
- It’s now possible to create, modify and delete road names in the Master Road Index.
- Support for Viewer user type, along with Editor and Creator. Viewers can display the data but not perform edits.
- Add a georeferenced image to your map, such as subdivision plans. This is useful when adding addresses for a new subdivision, where road and parcel data does not exist yet.
- You can now create a temporary line as a construction aide to place addresses parallel to it. This tool is useful when you have a georeferenced subdivision image.
Please contact your account manager to schedule a demo.

App of the Month: Kingston’s Snowplow Tracker
One thing you’re guaranteed to see in Canada during the winter is snow. That’s why winter maintenance and preparedness should be top of mind for every community. It is also why November’s App of the Month is the City of Kingston Snowplow Tracker, an interactive map that shows the activity of snowplows in the City of Kingston, Ontario.
Map of the Month: LiDAR for Vegetation Management
Vegetation is a leading cause of service interruption for electricity distributors. LiDAR-based vegetation management is rapidly growing in popularity and practicality. Elexicon Energy engaged Quantum Spatial Canada to perform a LiDAR pilot acquisition, with one deliverable centred around vegetation management. The pilot area included a section that was identified as a hotspot in the previous analysis using Esri’s Space Time Pattern Mining tools.

Geographical Thinking Podcast – Season 2 | Episode 4: Mapping History in Nova Scotia
Mapannapolis is a non-profit that maps local cultural history, but this is not a traditional group of historians. It is a silo-busting, cross-discipline, award-nominated group that uses GIS to map structures, graveyards and churches to understand their community better. Guan talks to one of their founders, Heather LeBlanc, about how it works and what it means to the people living in one of the most famous parts of this country, the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia.
Geographical Thinking Podcast – Season 2 | Episode 5: From Habitat Conservation to Fundraising
“Geographic knowledge plays a role in nearly every decision we make at Ducks Unlimited Canada”. When Guan saw this statement, she knew she needed to hear their stories. For decades, Ducks Unlimited Canada has been using GIS, initially it was to map wetlands, but it’s gone far beyond that. They use it for research into waterfowl, study the effect habitat conservation has on water quality and even to raise funds. Guan invited Andrew Pratt - Manager of Information Technology at Ducks Unlimited Canada to share the story of how they leverage GIS across departments.
