Work offline with Field Maps
When using a mobile device, there are few things more frustrating than losing internet connection, being in an area without Wi-Fi or experiencing slow network speeds. Thankfully, ArcGIS Field Maps provides a few different options for taking maps offline, so your work is never interrupted due to a loss of connection. This means you can take your maps anywhere, be that in rural areas, a wildlife preserve or even that spot in town notorious for slow internet speeds.
Hot Tip – Gather community feedback on a map with ArcGIS Hub
Public input helps local leaders better understand the challenges facing the communities they survey. Understanding the dynamics between place and people is especially important, given that most public projects and plans have a geographical component. To help community-based organizations reach public audiences online, ArcGIS Hub now includes a new map focused survey design that makes it easier for the public to input geographic data using full-screen, mobile responsive maps.
FAQ – What is the Community Map of Canada?

It provides unrestricted access to community maps and imagery across the country. Map of the Month: The American Kestrel (Falco sparverius)
Inspired by wood carvings by the mapmaker’s grandfather, this map depicts the seasonal range and abundance of the American Kestrel (Falco sparverius). The primary datasets were sourced from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and eBird. Using this data, the seasonal range of the Kestrel was layered onto a map of North America with vintage hillshade. The marginalia of the map contain callouts to interesting aspects of the data, descriptions of the migration habits of the Kestrel and charts illustrating the seasonal variations in the Kestrel’s ranges. Two illustrations of the subject carvings adorn the map as both an homage and a reference for the reader.

Reminder: Raster Basemaps Have Moved to Mature Support
Esri raster basemaps have entered mature support, which means it is important to begin updating your ArcGIS maps and apps to vector basemaps. In July 2021, Esri vector basemaps became the primary basemaps for use in ArcGIS. Raster basemaps have been placed in Mature Support. They will remain available, but they will no longer be updated. To ensure you are utilizing the latest and greatest data, it is important to update your basemaps to vector as soon as possible.
ArcMap Continued Support
ArcGIS 10.8.1 is the current release of ArcMap and will continue to be supported until March 1, 2026, as established in the ArcGIS Desktop Product Life Cycle. Esri plans to release ArcMap 10.8.2 near the end of 2021. This is a maintenance release only and will not include new functionality. This update will not extend the ArcGIS 10.8.x product life cycle. Esri does not have plans to release an ArcMap 10.9 with the ArcGIS releases in 2021. We understand there may be questions as to what’s next for ArcMap inside ArcGIS Desktop. By viewing the ArcMap Continued Support page, you will be able to find the answers to most, if not all, of your questions regarding continued support of ArcMap as well as resources to help you transition your work moving forward into several Esri products such as ArcGIS Pro.
