New Training Courses—2020 Year End Recap

Believe it or not, we’ve launched 14 new instructor-led courses this year alone! If you’ve missed some of them, not to worry: this blog post will help you catch up. It’s not too late to include the courses that align with your needs in your training plans for 2021.

We’ve all had to change the way we do things this year and training is no exception. Esri Canada has been offering online training for over 10 years alongside our in-class training, but at the beginning of 2020, due to COVID-19, we moved to a strictly online training model. This allowed those that had yet to take their first online course to experience the format. Over the last 10 months, we’ve had excellent feedback from new online training users and we look forward to seeing them in more courses in the future!

As things are progressing across the country, we’ll continue to offer online courses exclusively for the coming months. We very much look forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces again once it’s safe to gather in a classroom.

As you finalize your 2021 training plans, make sure to review the courses below to see which ones could help you elevate your organization’s GIS to new levels.

New Courses for 2020

ArcGIS Online: Essential Workflows (1 day)
Are non-GIS users in your organization interested in using existing data from your Web GIS portal to create their own map products? Get your new users trained before they jump into web mapping. Point your colleagues to this course and they’ll learn about finding existing data and creating their first web maps.

ArcGIS Dashboards Essentials (1 day)
Keeping an eye on important KPIs is key to informed decision making. With a dashboard, you can track the progress of the work being done to assess the situation faster. Dashboards collect the information you need all in one place, in a clear, simple format. Best to learn the do’s and don’ts before diving in.

Get Started with ArcGIS Hub for Your Organization (1 day)
Connecting people with content by adding context that matters to them will encourage collaboration: internally between departments or teams, externally between organizations and even between your organization and members of your community. This course is about configuring web pages that can be shared publicly or restricted to a select few.

Introduction to ArcGIS Open Data (1 day)
Standing up a data catalogue web page allows anyone to help themselves to the content you’ve curated. This readily available data will satisfy their location intelligence needs and can reduce the number of requests for information coming to your organization, leaving you time to focus on new solutions.

Imagery Analysis in ArcGIS Pro (2 days)
Using aerial photos can help you map an area, evaluate assets, assess damage after a storm or detect specific vegetation in areas too difficult to access or too large to manage. In ArcGIS Pro, you can now do all the necessary data processing and imagery analysis in one place. This course will teach you the ins and outs of these new tools.

Creating Maps and Visualizations with ArcGIS (3 days)
Making better static and dynamic maps that are easier for non-GIS users to understand will pay for itself. This course teaches you how to use cartography techniques and the great tools available in ArcGIS Pro to deliver great maps for various audiences that are accessible on a variety of devices.

Working with Attribute Rules and Contingent Values (New format! Only 2 hours!)
Pre-built rules will help you allow only information entries that meet industry standards in your spatial database. They will also provide end users with drop-down menus that include only answers that are directly related to the parent data type in your data structure. No more need to correct typos or remove entries that don’t belong!

Get Started with ArcGIS GeoEvent Server (1 day)
Deliver powerful information directly into the hands of decision makers with ArcGIS GeoEvent Server. Take this course to learn how to visualize moving vehicles as they complete their work on a web map, get notifications when tracked devices enter or leave a certain area and much more.

Introduction to Webhooks (New format! Only ½ day)
Use webhooks to get email notifications whenever someone submits a request on a digital form to move a workflow along to the next step faster. Webhooks allow various applications to talk to each other, which can help you track the progress of various types of requests and speed up approval/denial processes, for example.

Introduction to the ArcGIS API for Python (2 days)
Automating Web GIS administrative tasks will save you time! This will open so many opportunities to create new efficiencies for your organization. The ArcGIS API for Python can be used to automate the creation of users and content as well as their removal from your GIS Portal, helping to keep things clean and organized. Explore this tool and its many possibilities with our in-depth introduction.

Extending ArcGIS Pro with Add-Ins (3 days)
Customizing tools and simplifying users’ ArcGIS Pro interfaces will provide them with a streamlined environment that can support strict workflows, or simply make things easier to learn and use for a specific audience. When Web GIS solutions aren’t an option, customizing ArcGIS Pro might be the way to go.

Developing Web Apps with ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.x (3 days)
If you need to build a web application from scratch because other configurable solutions don’t meet your requirements, you should be using the latest version of this API. Learning the latest features before you get started will save you time down the road.

Configuring Utility Networks in ArcGIS (2 days)
Deploying the ArcGIS Utility Network requires many steps. It’s best to be as prepared as possible to efficiently make the transition. Take this course to learn the best practices for designing network schema and data loading for a successful deployment.

Cityworks Permits, Licensing and Land (PLL) End-User Training (1 day)
Introducing a new interface with a map to non-GIS users using the Cityworks PLL solution will require some training. This course provides a nice introduction to non-GIS users. They’ll learn to navigate the map and its functionalities, create a new application for permit or license and search for or update existing applications.
