Make Your Story Famous: Enter the Esri Storytelling Contest

You’ve got stories to tell and we’ve created storymaps to help you do it. But maybe you want a little more than just the satisfaction of crafting a great storymap to share with the rest of the world. Well, how does fame, glory and prizes sound to you? Pretty tantalizing, eh? Enter your storymap into the Esri Storytelling Contest and you could have it all.

Now is your chance to let your mapping skills shine! Esri is hosting a storytelling map contest that runs until June 2nd, 2014. Winners will be announced at the International User Conference in San Diego in July. All you need is an ArcGIS Online Organizational or Public Account and some great ideas. You could win a one year ArcGIS Online subscription for five users, a copy of the Smithsonian’s History of America in 101 Objects and/or a year subscription to Smithsonian Magazine.

There are four categories to enter:

  • Best Conservation, Environment + Sustainability Story Maps
  • Best Travel + Destinations Story Maps
  • Best Culture, History + Events Story Maps
  • Best Science, Technology + Health Story Maps

Esri has lots of resources to help you on your journey to creating the best storymap ever. There are tips, templates, examples and guidelines to get you  started. Show the world the great stories Canadians have to tell.

About the Author

Paul Heersink is a cartographer and Program Manager of Esri Canada’s Roads & Addresses Program: an initiative that is aiming to build a seamless topographic basemap using contributor data. He has over 25 years of cartographic experience, working in both the public and private sectors. Paul has always been interested in mapping and drew his own atlas at the age of 10. He took a detour in his career through the fields of psychology and social work before returning to cartography.
