Canadian updates to the ArcGIS Online imagery basemap

Find out which two Canadian communities contributed content for the ArcGIS Online imagery basemap in this post.

The imagery basemap on ArcGIS Online was updated this week with 2 Canadian contributions from Kelowna, BC and Norfolk County, ON. New imagery from Kelowna is 10 cm from 2015, replacing the previous 10 cm imagery from 2012, and is available from their open data site. Norfolk County contributed 20 cm imagery from 2010 that replaced 50 cm imagery from the same year.

Paul Heersink is a cartographer and Program Manager of Esri Canada’s Roads & Addresses Program: an initiative that is aiming to build a seamless topographic basemap using contributor data. He has over 25 years of cartographic experience, working in both the public and private sectors. Paul has always been interested in mapping and drew his own atlas at the age of 10. He took a detour in his career through the fields of psychology and social work before returning to cartography.
