New Web Mapping Approach Moves City of Coquitlam Towards Greater Productivity
Adopting a one-map-fits-all approach to publishing web maps has been a standard practice for municipalities and government agencies for many years. The City of Coquitlam sought to transition away from the concept of multi-purpose, GIS-based online maps by leveraging out-of-the-box tools available through ArcGIS. The City efficiently deployed a suite of focused apps that met municipal and provincial security and privacy requirements and addressed the needs of various city departments. The web maps are now helping office and field staff stay connected and productive with timely, up-to-date information.

He contends that the ability to analyze data and gain insight into what it means is the very thing that most organizations crave the most. In his latest ArcNorth News column, View From the North, Chris challenges GIS professionals to embrace new approaches that will help those outside the GIS community benefit from the power of GIS.

As these two industries move closer together, we’re seeing increased adoption of the solutions, templates, best practices and processes that now cross both industries. It makes sense to also address the commonality in the events we run for the Utilities and Telecommunications industries. In October, we will launch Esri GeoConX, which integrates the best elements of the Electric & Gas User Group (EGUG) and Telecommunications User Group (TelUG) meetings.
