IHO Working Group makes MSDI a reality

Recently, the 8th IHO Marine SDI Working Group meeting was held in Vancouver and hosted by the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), which is part of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. The OGC Maritime Domain Working Group meeting took place the day prior to the MSDIWG-8. The IHO MSDI working group meeting was attended by 22 participants from nine counties.

Esri pushes digital technology to create 'system of systems'

One-minute earthquake warnings, flood prediction 15 days in advance and public development projects that incorporate social media feedback are on the horizon for cities, and not a far horizon, according to Esri president Jack Dangermond. Dangermond addressed urban planners from across the United States who were gathered in Redlands for the annual Geodesign Summit. The summit is based on the premise that “planning practices rooted in the 20th century may no longer be adequate” to build smart, liveable communities.

The Esri Federal GIS Conference took place in February in Washington, D.C. The conference consisted of plenary and technical presentations, panel discussions, special sessions and poster presentations. Topics discussed at the conference included implementing GIS in the cloud, best practices for web applications, mobile GIS, imagery and GIS, GIS for facilities management, best practices for mission applications, GIS for open government, building national SDIs and leveraging GIS as a collaborative platform.
